Soon enough, which is May 12, Jakarta Performing Arts Community (JPAC) will held their first of five shows of West Side Story. West Side Story is a classic musical penned by Arthur Laurents, with composers Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim.

Loosely based on Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, the musical revolves around Tony, a Polish-Irish New Yorker, and Maria, a Puerto Rican immigrant. With the backdrop of 1960’s New York City, the timeless piece is brought to life with the dynamic opposition between the Jets, the white gang, and the Sharks, the Puerto Ricans.
JPAC, which has over 200 members throughout 3 years of various productions, will show the audience yet another hidden talents. Directed by Fonnyta Amran, the cast stretched from various age, culture, education, and background. Some of the cast may have studied the performing arts in classes, and some are autodidact singers and dancers.
You can see the show starting from May 12 to May 14 at Graha Bakti Budaya, Taman Ismail Marzuki.
