Jazz Buzz is an annual music program organized and held by Komunitas Salihara since 2012. Senior jazz performers and young upcoming musicians play varied compositions and engage in collaborations.
This year’s theme is Jazz Sans Frontiéres IV, which continues on the themes of the previous three years. Considering the public’s increased interest in jazz these days, Komunitas Salihara seeks to present an alternative presentation format that transcends familiar jazz boundaries in terms of genre, instrument choices, and even the musician’s countries of origin.
Jazz Buzz opens with duet Sri Hanuraga and Gerald Situmorang bringing compositions from their latest album, Meta (2019). We will also welcome Sengat, Reynold Silalahi’s latest band supported by Tesla Manaf, Yusuf Yadi Surya and Irene Lase. Benefiting from the members’ diverse musicalities and musical backgrounds, Sengat offers a new musical flavor
In the second week, Iwan Hasan Progressive Jazz Ensemble brings compositions inspired by the Third Stream composer, Gunther Schuller, mixed with Eastern instruments and progressive rock tones. Next, the avant-garde guitarist Eyal Maoz performs free-improv jazz. Finally, Jazz Buzz closes with a performance by Tohpati Bertiga, in collaboration with four brass musicians, playing jazz-rock compositions.
Jazz Buzz Salihara will be held across two weeks in February 2019, with the following schedule:
Sri Hanuraga dan Gerald Situmorang: Saturday, February 09, 2019, 08:00 PM
Sengat: Sunday, February 10, 2019, 08:00 PM
