Good Morning JKTGOers!
I have some very exciting news to share with you today. Read through the post and it’ll be at the very bottom underneath my cheat sheet.
Last Saturday I was invited by some lovely friends of mine over at MakanLuar.com to try the upcoming Christmas Set Menu at B’Steak Grill & Pancake in Gading Serpong, Tangerang. It’s a four-course meal that lets you have a taste high class dining without the price tag. We’ve a lot to cover, so let’s get started!
First up was the Pan-seared Sweet Water Scallops served with braised baby spinach, dutch green pea puree and garlic. Perfectly sweet, definitely not overcooked. I don’t often see raw radish being served in Indonesia, and I have a weak spot for its peppery taste.
Let’s keep this between us, but I actually had two of these. Also, I was the only that noticed, but don’t you like how they use the Christmas colours? Red, green and white, people!
By this time the drinks had arrived. Everyone got something slightly different. A lot of iced teas, some oreo milkshakes here and there, but the stand outs were my Mixed Berry Spritzer (name not guaranteed) and Hero’s Spicy Iced Chocolate (not pictured).
The soup course was next – a smooth Butternut Squash Soup served with Porcini mushrooms and white truffle oil. Notice how they put the sprigs are positioned like antlers? Or is that just me again? All around the table we had clean dishes, everyone loved these.
I instead opted for that second serving of scallops.
For the main course, you have a choice of three dishes. Above is the Oven Baked Barramundi with mixed mushrooms, baby beans and young coconut and lemongrass sauce. Flaky and light with the same tangy tomatoes as the scallops and a few drops of vinaigrette.
I personally chose the Roasted Fillet Mignon, Portobello mushrooms and green asparagus with red wine beurre blanc (or rather, a beurre rouge).
A beurre blanc, translated literally from French, is white butter. Traditionally it’s a hot emulsified butter sauce made with a vinegar reduction and/or white wine and shallots. Here they’ve swapped out the white wine for red wine, making the “white butter” sauce a “red butter” sauce, or, beurre rouge. Fun fact, rouge is the colloquial term for lipstick in France, too. (nerd mode: off)
Behind it on the right you’ll see a very blurry Roasted Turkey with organic broccoli, stuffing, sweet potato puree, cranberries and house-made gravy. Nothing says Foreign-Holiday-Season like roast turkey, right? And since we’re all too lazy to make some ourselves at home, this is the perfect chance to actually taste turkey!
Last on the menu, but certainly not least, is the individually portioned Bûche de Noël. Pretty, rich and not too sweet, both the kids and adults will love this. This is a fairy self-explanatory dish, but one that caps off the Christmas dinner well.
Tell me in the comments what you think looks the yummiest (:
