art:1Art:1, formerly known as Mon Decor Gallery (est. 1983) is the pioneer in art galleries in Jakarta. At the time it catered to the needs for decorative paintings, prints, repros, and other artistic objects for interior decoration, in addition to being a frame shop. After three years since its conception, Mon Decor Gallery transformed into a professional fine art gallery gallery business. During its 30 years of experience, Mon Decor Gallery had created several gallery branches all over Jakarta such as Plaza Senayan, Wisma Mulia and Grand Indonesia Shopping Town. Currently with over 2.500 artworks, Mon Decor Gallery’s reputable collections include Old Masters, Indo-Euro, Modern Art and Contemporary artworks. Notable artists that had been exhibited include Widayat, Renato Christiano, Anusapati, M. Irfan and much more.
As an executive member of The Association of Galleries, Mon Decor Gallery together with 12 other art galleries founded Jakarta Art District in Grand Indonesia. In 2010 it won "Favourite Gallery of The Year" Award. In 2011, Mon Decor Gallery reinvented its initial fine art gallery concept and expanded into a private museum, art space and art institute to support the growth of art infrastructure in Indonesia. This shift was accompanied by a relocation into a larger, more equipped exhibition space in Kemayoran called Art:1. The new complex was built to facilitate art in Indonesia with the concept of ‘one-stop art destination.’ Art:1 comprehensively provides museum exhibitions by senior artists, supports emerging artists through its art space, and provides other services relating to art consulting, art restoration and art education programs. It is Indonesia’s first private art museum opened to public that truly operates to international standards.

: Designed by Sardjono Sani (Kemang Icon), Art:1 was finally completed in 2011. The modern minimalist architecture building reveals a total space of 4,000sqm which is home to Art:1 New Museum and Art Space:1. The monochromatic white grey building stands almost invisible with a red gate entrance made of steel. Inside, only a streak of black and red has been added. These are the only colors that continue through the heart of Art:1. White wash walls permeates throughout in order to accommodate and support the artworks on display. On the lobby foyer stands a commissioned artwork by artist Sunaryo titled “Titik Jeda” (Crossing Point). The artwork describes the philosophy of Art:1 and its vision for building a strong infrastructure for art in Indonesia. The result is a beautiful form where art, people and structure are integrated as one. The work has also inspired the Art:1 logo and our slogan, ‘Art For Everyone’.
Art:1 New Museum features a more conventional, rectangular design which is straight forward and easy to navigate. The three floors of exhibition spaces are supported by a skylight that runs all through the levels providing a connection throughout the space while utilizing plenty of natural light for ergonomic viewing. Art Space:1 provides a more contemporary feel with exposed beams, video rooms and hidden corners, encouraging viewers to explore, interact and be curious not only through its collections but also through the individually designed three levels of art space. The first floor opens to a wide area for information point and a bar service.
